40 Years ago at Tarawa

From the cyclostyled sheets on The Battle of Tarawa Commemoration, I was intrigued by the note of practicality of operating in remote areas ....
On Saturday morning Radio Tarawa will close down as usual at 8.00 a.m. Then at 9.15 a.m. we shall open up again to broadcast the service from the end of the mole at Betio. That is the theory and I sincerely hope that all will go according to plan. The power and telephone cables have been laid and other preparations made, but with our present equipment nothing is certain.
From the Order of Service layout this photo shows the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides. In the background would be RCTS "Teraka" crew (and thanks to Tawita of Tarawa, RCTS stands for Royal Colony Training Ship.) Tawita (see attached comment) went on to explain 'Teraaka' is what is now known as the Marine Training Centre, which trains young men (and now women) to work as merchant seafarers.)
